FAQs & Testimonials

Sydney Distance Education Primary School supports eligible primary-aged students across New South Wales with flexible, high-quality learning aligned to the NSW curriculum. Below you’ll find answers to common questions about enrolment eligibility, program delivery, costs, learning expectations and how we support students and families throughout their distance education journey.

Who can enrol in Sydney Distance Education Primary School?

All primary aged students from government and non-government schools that meet the criteria for a relevant distance education enrolment category. You must be an Australian resident and live or have lived in our enrolment area. Kindergarten students must turn five by the end of July in the year that they are enrolling.

How much does distance education cost?

SDEPS provides free access for primary distance education for those who meet the general entry requirements for residents of New South Wales.  This includes all learning and supplementary materials and resources to fully engage in a very rewarding educational experience.

Are there online lessons?

Yes, we do offer online lessons where students will be given opportunities to interact and learn with their peers via video conferencing software. Group lessons and one-to-one lessons occur during AEST standard school hours.

How many hours a day are spent studying?

Generally 3-4 hours a day for lessons and other educational activities (approximately 18-20 hrs per week).

How do we keep in touch with the teacher?

You will be provided with an email that is shared by teachers working collaboratively to support your student(s). Phone contact can be made using the number provided during the enrolment process during standard office hours. After hours you can call the main school phone line and leave a voice message. Online lessons will be offered, or can be arranged by request.

Do I need to notify my child’s current school before enrolling?

YES – we will also send an endorsement to be signed by your current school’s principal when your enrolment application is received.

Can we enrol in another school while travelling?

NO – you cannot enrol in another school while travelling. You are considered to be a full-time enrolment with us. You can attend another school on a partial basis for social purposes and other activities. You must have the permission of our principal and also the principal of the other school.

What syllabus do we use?

Like all NSW public schools, we use the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) syllabuses. We also use the government school based yearly calendar.
